Migration Mayhem
EU has been notoriously bad at regulating migration. After years of hesitation, it was decided to create a joint outer border protection corps. Now under direction of the Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson, it has proved completely ineffective in maintaining the integrity of the common borders. Immigration has soared under her leadership and she is openly speaking out for more immigration, not less.
Now there seems to be agreement on a new immigration pact, that basically does not limit immigration but seeks to distribute the immigrants (legel and illegal) more evenly among the member states. This is bound to fail, because a number of Eastern European states have already announced that they will not accept mandatory distribution of immigrants. If the pact (why is it not a Directive?) is approved by the Council of Ministers, it will start a new set of cifficulties in ruling in rebellious states, even worse than the ones we have already seem with Poland and Hungary regarding the democratic principles of separation of powers. It is very similar to the earlier situations with Austria, Italy and Denmark, regarding acceptance of right-wing populists parties participating in governments directly or as supporting votes in national parliaments.
