Product Standards
After so many years, the EU has not yet managed to establish a common standard for electrical outlets. Some may say, correctm, but just recently, there was actually agreement on a socket standard for all of EU. Yes, sort of: It was agreed that the German Schuko plug is the basis, but there are numerous variations and deviation admitted. Maybe Schuko is the standard, but in most other countries than Germany, it is accepted that outlets are non-Schuko as long as there are suitable and approved adapters available to connect any applicance with a Schuko plug on it.
The German car industry has determined most automotive standards, af which many are designed clearly as a hindrance for US cars to enter the market.
